Joel is known as someone who loves Jesus, is a dedicated family man, a professional golfer with a knack for low scoring, and who loves to be involved in the community through organizations like Watermark Community Church and The First Tee. Joel currently lives with his wife, Anna, and son, Reese, in Fort Worth, Texas.

Growing up 200 miles east in Marshall, Texas, Joel's first job at a golf course and meeting his coach/mentor Roy Pace, inspired a late start to playing golf. In high school, he posted one win on the International Junior Golf Tour, several wins on the Ark-La-Tex Junior Tour, and was also named Arl-La-Tex Player of the Year in 2008. The delayed start would not hold him back from chasing dreams and playing golf at the collegiate level.

Joel started to find his game during his freshman year at LeTourneau University, where he won the Louisiana College/Mississippi College Invitational and would also place as a runner-up at both the LeTourneau Spring Invitational and American Southwest Conference Championship. He walked on the golf team at Louisiana Tech his sophomore year with high finishes of 6th in the David Toms, LSU Intercollegiate, and 5th in the Bulldog Classic. To conclude his college career, Joel joined the NAIA powerhouse Texas Wesleyan Rams where was named an All-American, an Academic All-American, Tied the school record low tournament round (64), and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in finance. He earned two other trophies his senior year, marrying his wife, Anna, and winning again, this time by 4 shots, at The Bandit Golf Club. Joel also finished runner up at the 2012 Greystone Invitational, his final and personal favorite amateur championship.

As a professional, Joel’s story may remind you of Johnny Cash’s famous song “I’ve Been Everywhere.” After graduating college in 2012, and suffering a torn rotator cuff in 2013, he’s played full time as a professional from 2014-present. He’s won on the Dakota’s Tour (2020), Fairway Golf Tour (2014, 2017), and iTour (twice in 2016). He has finished top 10 in the Texas State Open 3x (2014, 2017, 2018). He advanced through Q School and played 2 full seasons on PGA Tour Canada in 2015 & 2016. He played 2 PGA Tour Latin America events in 2018, finishing 8th place in Tijuana, Mexico. He’s had a dozen top 10 finishes on the Mexican Tour. He Monday qualified on the Korn Ferry Tour 3 times in only 5 attempts in 2018 with scores of -7, -8, and -7 (14 under and 34th place was top result after qualifying in Springfield). He advanced through Q school and played a full season on PGA Tour China in 2019. In 2019, he made it to the 2nd stage of European Tour Q School after advancing past 1st stage in Stockholm, Sweden. He currently has conditional status on the Korn Ferry Tour earned via Q School Final Stage in 2019.

Since turning professional, there has been no shortage of highs, lows, and close calls. It’s all part of the journey.
